On 18 January 2022, the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) officially announced at www.tas-cas.org that it opened two temporary offices in China to provide rapid, high quality dispute resolution services immediately before and during the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 (the “Games”). BAI Xianyue, managing partner of Grandall Tianjin Office, was appointed as an arbitrator of the CAS Ad Hoc Division (CAS AHD) for the Games.
The CAS AHD is composed of the President, Co-Presidents and nine arbitrators, all of whom are experienced lawyers, judges or professors specializing in sports law, anti-doping work and arbitration. Lawyer BAI Xianyue is the only Chinese arbitrator among these nine arbitrators.
Mr. BAI has served as an arbitrator for a number of arbitration institutions, including China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, Court of Arbitration for Sports, Asia International Arbitration Centre, Beijing Arbitration Commission/Beijing International Arbitration Centre, Shanghai International Arbitration Centre, Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration and Guangzhou Arbitration Commission. He has been practicing for 20 years in the fields of finance, M&A, sports law, commercial arbitration, litigation, and international trade; moreover, He has once represented Ms. TONG Wen, the Chinese Olympic champion, in a case before the CAS and won the historic first victory of Chinese athletes in this institution. In 2018, Mr. BAI was appointed as one of the six arbitrators of Asia Games Ad Hoc Division by the Court of Arbitration for Sports to participate in the 18th Asian Games held in Indonesia.
