VDB Loi is a network of leading law and advisory member firms and affiliated companies with offices in Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, and representatives in Japan and Singapore. We deliver real-world solutions that fit the commercial context of the emerging markets where we operate.
With offices in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw, we are a frontline foreign firm in Myanmar and consistently ranked at the top-tier level by legal reference guides. We are proud to say we were involved in an astounding 25% to 33% of this year’s approved (MIC) investments in the country and act for the government of Myanmar on 7 privatizations in energy, transport and telecoms.
We are particularly recognized for our experience in the energy sector. VDB Loi advised on 4 out of 5 power deals concluded in 2016, and is engaged on 7 hydro power projects, including all of those by EU sponsors. We also work on the first solar and wind farm projects in Myanmar. In oil and gas, we act for 4 of the super-majors and we’ve assisted on 3 farm-ins.
In Telecoms, our dedicated team assisted 5 out of 7 tower companies in Myanmar last year, and took the initiative to co-found Connect2Everyone, an industry association for environmentally and socially responsible network infrastructure deployment.
Our Banking and Finance Team acted or are currently acting for every bilateral and international financial institution active in Myanmar, totaling over US$ 1 billion in financing in 2016- that includes our representation of the lenders, two international financial institutions, on the largest Myanmar financing transaction so far- a combined US$ 300 million.
Our firm has one goal- using the unique local knowledge and relationships we have spent years building up to give your deal the edge. All team members are, just like partners Edwin Vanderbruggen and Jean Loi, residents of Myanmar. We are the ultimate in ground connectivity.
